Bleakley Platt Chairman William P. Harrington will be presented with the Judge Learned Hand Award from the Westchester\/Fairfield County chapter of the American Jewish Committee for his achievements within and beyond the practice of law. Mr. Harrington will be honored at an awards dinner taking place on November 29 at the Ritz-Carlton in White Plains.<\/p>\n
The Judge Learned Hand Award is the highest honor bestowed by the American Jewish Committee upon members of the legal profession. Established in 1964, the award is presented to outstanding lawyers who have contributed meaningfully to the legal community through professional achievement and community leadership and whose work reflects the integrity and broad humanitarian ideals exemplified by Judge Learned Hand.<\/p>\n
A legendary figure, Judge Learned Hand served as Senior Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit from 1924 to 1951, and was famous for the extensive range of decisions he rendered in more than two thousand cases.<\/p>\n

Stanley Twardy, former U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut and Managing Partner of Day Pitney LLP, will also be presented with the Judge Learned Hand Award that evening.<\/p>\n
Mr. Harrington is Chairman of the Firm\u2019s Executive Committee and head of the Litigation and Toxic Tort\/Complex Litigation Practice Groups. Mr. Harrington is an experienced trial attorney who has represented Fortune 500 companies in criminal, commercial, environmental, civil rights, real estate, gaming and employment discrimination matters. His clients have included major oil companies, pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, racetracks\/casinos, financial institutions and significant regional companies in all aspects of complex environmental, toxic tort and commercial litigation. Mr. Harrington also represents both municipalities and developers in all phases of land use development and related litigation.<\/p>\n
